3. Over-arching Rules for Competitions run in the name of the Eureka Trust

3.1. To provide for the fair and equitable assessment of entries for competitions run in the name of the Rotary Eureka Trust:

3.1.1.Each entry for a specific competition shall be assessed against standard criteria established by the Trust
3.1.2.The same criteria shall be used at each stage of the selection process of each specific competition unless variations are formally adopted by the Trust
3.1.3.The Trust shall define procedures and/or provide guidance to ensure that assessments are carried out on a consistent basis, that assessors are appropriately qualified and that assessments are subject to moderation from time to time

4. Over-arching Rules for non-competitive Programmes such as Junior Eureka!

4.1. Students who participate in non-competitive programmes shall be assessed by their teacher on their ability to demonstrate they have:

4.1.1.Identified an application of science, technology, engineering or mathematics in the community in which they live
4.1.2.Investigated the application in sufficient depth to establish the economic, social, environmental value the application delivers to their community
4.1.3.Prepared and delivered a presentation on their investigation to their classmates, parents, or school emphasizing the value of STEM to their community

4.2. Students may work in groups or individually to complete the tasks set out above

5. Over-arching Rules for Selection of entrants to receive Scholarships, and for Alumni to be Selected for Internships or Fellowships

5.1. Scholarships awarded to Sir Paul Callaghan Eureka! Awards Contestants

5.1.1.Subject Specific Scholarships

5.1.1.1. Each entrant for the Sir Paul Callaghan Eureka! Awards Competition may submit their presentation for consideration for a Scholarship for which the presentation is subject relevant

5.1.2.Additional Scholarships

5.1.2.1. Each entrant who meets the qualifying criteria may also submit their presentation for consideration for a Scholarship which is aimed at students of Maori or Pasifika descent
5.1.2.2. In total, no entrant shall submit their presentation for more than one (1) Subject Specific Scholarship plus one (1) Additional Scholarship in any one year

5.1.3.Selection of Scholars

5.1.3.1. Scholars shall be selected by the Scholarship sponsor on the basis of the video recording of the 6-minute summary presentation delivered at Geographic or Virtual Region Competitions
5.1.3.2. The decision of the Scholarship sponsor shall be final
5.1.3.3. In the event a Scholarship is not awarded in any year it will be carried over to the following year

5.2. Internships and Fellowships available for Alumni – (final rules to be determined in consultation with Callaghan Innovation and other sponsors)

5.2.1.Internships

5.2.1.1. The Eureka! Trust will develop procedures to

5.2.1.1.1. identify and match employers seeking interns from the Eureka! Alumni Group to undertake research and development projects during summer vacations
5.2.1.1.2. ensure that selection of candidates for internships is fair to all eligible candidates

5.2.2.Fellowships

5.2.2.1. The Eureka! Trust will develop procedures to

5.2.2.1.1. identify and match universities and employers seeking fellows from the Eureka! Alumni Group to acquire relevant work experience while undertaking post-graduate research and development projects
5.2.2.1.2. ensure that selection of candidates for fellowships is fair to all eligible candidates
